With apologies to Cormac McCarthy and Pendleton Ward.
I was fascinated by this one episode of Adventure Time (I’m an on-and-off fan of the show; I usually don’t have time to watch it) called “Simon & Marcy”, which had Simon and Marcy walking around a post-apocalyptic world. As they went through the story, I started thinking of another post-apocalyptic book: The Road, which had a father and son trying to survive in a world hit by nuclear war. I thought it would make sense to take dialogue from the book (page 76) and put these characters into it. It just matched up to me: the idea of struggling to not only stay alive in a harsh, unforgiving world while also trying to stay a good person resonates a lot from both stories, and the situations are almost purely interchangeable.
